Fantasist Gun... Call of Duty...

#1 Post by Sim G »

My boy is 16. He loves the game consuls. Built him a "Call of Duty" gun...

As is usual with me, I tend to go over the top.

So it started with a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22. Went for the standard as I got it second hand and the Magpul parts are easy enough to get hold of...

So it wears a Magpul CTR stock and MAID grip. There's Magpul back-up irons and a Magpul vertical grip. All in Olive Drab. Then there are rail covers, again in olive and an RRA muzzle brake. There's a La Rue "gas pedal" used as a handstop. The extended mag release, extended bolt release and the body locking pins are etched "Infidel". A Battle Arms extended ambi safety and the trigger, hammer and disconector springs have been replaced with JP Enterprises springs and the bearing surfaces of the trigger have seen a little polishing. There's also an aluminium billet charging handle with extended tac latch!

Put a Leupold Prismatic on top.

And today, the gun came back from the shop after having the barrel shortened to 12 inches!!

Why? Coz we could...

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Does the barrel has to be proofed again after having it cut ?

It shouldn't, if you're keeping for yourself and don't plan to sell it, but opinions vary! I didn't get the barrel of my Winchester reproofed after I shortened it.

I'd have to look for the exact wording and context but the other aspect is if the barrel has been materially weakened - then it needs to go proof.

BTW, Simon, nice rifle! :good:

It looks like it will be fun to shoot and 'because you could' is a good enough reason for me. What does it close down to, around 27"? have you had a chance to put it on the scales yet
