win .243 reloading issue

Hi All
Im new at reloading and i having an issue loading up new lapua brass.
Im loading the lapua case with 90grain target hpbt berga with 35grain Vit N150 cci primmers
When fired i get flatened and crater primmer and suit over the hole case as if it is over presssure, to make sure it wasnt under pressure issue i shot 1 round with 37.1grain and got the same with the back of the case writing getting flattened and marked with the ejector too.
I also have loaded up the same 90 grain berga with 40.5grain N150 in a once shot hornady case with no problems no marks or suit, i have looked at quick load and im well within the pressure limits.
All rounds are shot through a Howa 1500 sporter .243 win standard rifle.
I can post pics if needed.
Can some one please shed some light on my probs as the hornady cases shot fine with way more powder.

Before you go any further, check your loads. Where are you getting your data from?

With a 90gn Lapua FMJ, my Vhit manual states a starting load of N150 at 27.1gns and a maximum of, 33.2gns.

Something is definitely not right.....

A friend also had problems with this bullet in his .243 using the same powder. He checked his load data and it was well within accepted loads but still showed signs of extreme pressure blowing a primer out in one case (new Lapua cases). We backed right off and were still getting some signs of pressure and velocities close to those expected with maximum loads. In the end the loads that he developed were much less than the suggested starting load. The rifle was a Manlicher SSG 69. He never did work out the reason for such high pressures and decided not to buy these bullets again.

Have you checked the maximum case capacity with water as the Lapua may be very different to the Hornady. What length are you building to, it should be around 2.710"

on the data provided,the load doesnt reach `RED` up to 41.9 grains of Vit 150.suggest you inspect your seating depth,
the could be too long and in the lands,or too short causing over pressure

I struggled to find a powder my 243 liked tried varget rl19 and h4895, finally found h4350 has shot great since.

For 243 with 100 & 105 grain bullets (Winchester, Speer & Hornady) I use H4350 & Alliant Reloder 22 with no excessive pressure signs & good accuracy from standard slow twist barrels.

For my .243 I use reloader 17 of Elcho 17 as its the same powder. I've not had any pressure signs using the Berger 90g BT bullets.

Off hand, I've no idea what the max load is for Vit 150/243Win/90gn bullets but from what you describe - sooting on the case, ejector-hole marking on the case-head etc, I'd say you could be under pressure - the case is not obturating and thus not gripping the chamber wall - all the load is being taken on the bolt-face.

However, I would concur that it is unwise to exceed the maximum load given in the powder manufacturer's reloading manual.

N150 for 243Win and 90g is around 32.1 to 37.7max (on Lapua Scenars) so def. check the case volumes.
