Steyr Aug - Z SP - what scope

#1 Post by Geek »

As the title - purchased the above and shot for the first time yesterday (good fun) - trigger is not as bad as the press state.

But what scope to fit - shooting on the 50m, 100m and maybe the 250m.

Any advise would be much appreciated.
Regards,

I use a Burris Fullfield II 3x9 with the ballistic plex reticle, nice and comfortable to use, and I don't bother altering the scope at different ranges, the reticle is OK until 600 when I normally apply a bit of "Kentucky windage"

I've got an ACOG on mine but i wouldn't if i'd had to pay full price for it. I've tried other scopes on mine but i personally don't like putting a scope with a bell objective lens on, it just looks 'wrong' to me  , so if i was taking the ACOG off i'd probably replace it with a Simmons Whitetail Classic 1.5-bowl as that would look quite similar to the original AUG optic.

got one of those as well tongueout it works well for the closer stuff, but requires adjusting for longer ranges, and I'm basically lazy clapclap

I've never used it past 300m to be honest, anything further than that and i'd just slap in a 42rd mag and let loose, i'm sure at least one of them would hit the target bangbang

as long as the first one hit, then the others would be pretty close
bangbang once you get to grips with the trigger they are very capable rifles

KennyC,

Normally they are very simple to use - What is your ACOG mounted onto ?
On an M4, zeroed @ 25 it works @ 100 and then use the bars under the chevron for any additional 100 meters . It is not a match optic but does the job for me up to 300 . I have not gone further.

sorry, bit of a typo, I was referring to the Simmons whitetail scope not the ACOG, and the Steyr AUG works very well at 600

Why?

I have only shot the Steyr once, but quite like it, the recoil is minimal and the trigger is not as bad has I have read about: agree that the charging handle is a bit stiff and not easy.
