Re: Phoenix 2013
Well, i've been back a day now and i have to say that i enjoyed myself a lot.
First of all, i need to apologise to Ovenpaa and Christel. They were right. This target shooting stuff is pretty tiring and i was knanckered when i got home. All i did was lie down on the firing point all day and pull the trigger once in a while!
As far as the shooting went, i think i ended up in third place in F class at the 400, 500 & 600 yard shoot that morning. Out of four. I'd left before the results were in for the longer range shoot in the afternoon, but i had a nightmare time at 1000 yards and fully expected to be last of however many people took part. I blame the wind and maybe the ammunition.
Either way, i had a great time and it was good putting faces to names.
Mike357, it was great to meet you And i hope you and your lads made it home ok!

Re: Phoenix 2013
I went today with a couple of oppo's from Oundle, I had a good wander about and spent sometime chatting with David, Christel and Tim on the Shooting Shed stand. Hand a fondle of the new rifles and tried not to dribble too much :goodjob:
I bought a kilo of Elcho 17, some cheap 7.62x54 ammo from HPS although I missed out on their last 500 box of 200gn SMK's
I also picked up a new recoil spring guide for my GSG1911as mine broke the other week :cool2:
Not the busiest I've seen the place but at least you could walk about and see stuff :goodjob: all and all it was for me worth the trip, a good day out and catch up with friends

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Re: Phoenix 2013
It was nice to have met you Christal and ovenpaa, and also Dougan who popped in for a chat yesterday. I suspect that I also met Gaz sorry about that if it was you too but we didn't introduce ourselves. ( I held your .303 while you wrote out raffle tickets?)
I know what you mean about being tired Christal, I actually dozed off in the sunshine on Saurday afternoon while sat at the stand selling draw tickets but there again I have an excuse as I am still recovering from an illness. The shooting shed looked quite impressive. I always say that you can judge people by the company that they keep, and that certainly proved true by the other companies you shared your stand with over the weekend. Almost everything that I bought was from only 20 foot away from where we were selling draw tickets.
A very pleasant weekend, the weather certainly helped.

Re: Phoenix 2013
I have to say a BIG thank you to Dave and Chrystal for giving me space on their table for my cast boolits after being dropped in it at short notice.
Was it me or were there fewer people there this year?
I left midday for the 6 hour drive home and am going to chill out today before starting casting again.
It was great to meet all the forum members that came over to the Shed.
ps Dave's son sold me a beany hat which I am going to have to wear whenever I go shooting - getting me to spend money ain't easy so well done to him!
pps I managed to blag a bottle of the new miracle bore cleaner from Tim so watch this space for the results - I have a recalcitrant SMLE to attend to with it.
Thanks again.

Purveyor of fine cast boolits.
All round good guy and VERY grumpy old man.

Re: Phoenix 2013
Well, had a good Phoenix shooting in the .303 classes and managed to win 2 out of the 3 matches that I entered. Spent a lot of time with Ovenpaa, Christel, Tim and James at shooting shed, hope that I did not get in the way too much.
Didn't think much of the trade show, just the same stuff being recycled at higher prices than last year. As Gaz said lots of fake No4 Ts also spotted several fake Envoys.
Nice to meet up with several forum members.
Now off to rewrite the rules for some of the full-bore rifle events/classes for next years Phoenix.

Bisley Phoenix Meeting 2013
On Saturday I made my annual pilgrimage up to Bisley for the Phoenix meet. Usually it's the old getting older (dealers and stock ! ) balanced with new innovations and products.
This year it just seemed to be the former ie. "the old getting older". It was a fairly lack-lustre affair with few notable dealers not attending this year. I was looking for a new case lube pad and only one dealer had any there.
To cap it all, I usually call over to see Andy Allwood at Bracknell afterwards. I called him from Bisley to tell him that I would be picking up about 300 rounds of rifle ammo in about an hour, that I had pre-arranged with him two weeks ago. Unfortunately, Thames Valley had just turned down his RFD renewal, so he is no longer selling firearms or ammunition, only accessories and reloading components. The end of a good trading relationship, I think.
Overall, a dissappointing day. A trip this week down to the Sportsman's Gun Centre is on the cards.

Re: Phoenix 2013
Does anyone know if or when the results will be published? I can't find them anywhere on the NRA site apart from older years.

Re: Phoenix 2013
 Be patient James, should appear mid week. They still were trying to calculate the best newcomer award as it was proving too hard at the prizegiving

Re: Phoenix 2013
Definetley quiter than last year with more historical stuff I thought.
Highlight for me was the Slovakian LBP. Looks and feels like a real pistol as built on a 9mm frame. Sellers are very knowledgeable and keen to listen to customers.
Enjoyed catching up with all at Shooting Shed and meeting User702 and Dougan (and his Dad). Great tent and very eye catching inside and out!
Friday night was a horror story that some of you (and some complete strangers already know about)as was the aftermath. Centrefire on Saturday was a bit naff and ammo problems resulted in me failing miserably in Advancing Target and Multi Target on Sunday but I managed a reasonable TP1.
The above makes it all the more unbelievable that Dundee Rifle & Pistol Club at the first time of entering won the GR Smallbore Team event for TP1. Well done CormieAckImp, Lyons and mr smith for carrying my poor shooting.
