Cast bullet shoot

#1 Post by jjvc »

Had a wee cast bullet shooting fest at the 25m range last week.

7mm OVS and 6.5X55 Mousers, .303 No4, 7.5X55 Schmidt Rubin 96/11 and 30.06 M17.
Unfortunately we shot all the 7.5 and .303 rounds before I decided to take a few schnapps. D'OH!

Please, what bullet and load did you use in the No 4 Enfield?

I have one with a 2 groove barrel I have been trying to get a load for.

Thanks

Loads for 50m and 100m.
If you loads for a cast bullet out to 200-300m I would be happy to have those also.

Can you get Accurate 5744 (now called Lovex D060 over here) - used with a 316299 approx 200gr boolit at around 2000fps should be good for 300 yards.
If you cannot get loading data then pm me.
For shorter ranges use a faster pistol powder at velocities below 1500fps (indoors at 25 yards we use 4 to 5gr Viht 301 behind a 115gr soupcan RNFP boolit to get around 1000fps)

My 308s chrono at 978fps using 4.9gr of N310 and the 115gr boolit. Using the same boolit in my 300 Blackout with 3.7gr I get 1071fps, both give very good accuracy.

Reading this getting angrier and angrier!
I have tried to convince members of our committee that we could be doing this.
When I say we I probably mean me and a couple of others.
I bang my head against a brick wall each time I bring this up.
Usually just a straight forward NO along with range not certified for full bore rifle and/or someone will fire a factory round blah blah.
Give me some facts please guys on how to do this at my club!
Sorry for hijack but others may be in the same boat!

I introduced the use of suitable ammunition to the club arguing that so long as it was with the the limitations of the range certificate and it could be proven to be so.

I did all the paperwork and process for it and the club bought the chronograph.

Interestingly since the centre fire verification procedure was brought in some 44magnum and .357magnum loads that were being shot with gay abandon before we used a chronograph were found to be over the range certificate limits.

The first thing to do is get a hold of the range certificate and see what it actually says, some may stipulate pistol calibres only, but even they could breach the limits depending on the certificates specified muzzle velocity and energy.

If you want to contact me off forum Tony I can let you have copies of whatever paperwork I have.
