Getting a bit confused with all the material I'm reading in anticipation of reloading my first rounds.
Hope I'm not pi$$ing people off with my stupid questions icecube45
I've recently bought a used (but not abused) F/TR rifle, the nice chap I purchased it from has supplied me with all his reloading data along with drop charts etc.
As a novice reloader it will be a long time before i attempt to reload for this rifle but when I have succesfuly reloaded something simple (such as .44 Mag for my under lever) I will happily use his data for this rifle but I would like to understand the science behind his conclusions.
I know that reloading "Bibles" exist but I'm unsure on where to get the information, for example the F/TR has been fed on a diet of Lapua brass, Hodgon Varget powder & Bergers.
Who's information should I consult?
Or should I just accept the data I've been given from the very experienced chap I purchased the rifle from?

Hopefully the load data you have been given is proven and should work however dependant on the load it might be worth confirming it is safe. What is the rifle action?

The load data I've been given (along with quite a few rounds) is safe (no signs of over pressure) & accurate (1/4 MOA)
Action is Barnard.
If Varget is not available I assume I'm going to have to start load development from scratch? sign01

Buy The Lyman 49th Edition reloading manual & read all of the first half several times.
Loads for your rifle will be in the second half.
It's the best reloading manual bar none (except the 46th IMO).
ANY loads you're given need to be checked against reliable data & those at or near maximum reduced by 5-10% & worked back up.

Stuck, there are plenty of very good alternatives to Varget. You do not say which Bergers you are shooting, the various 155, 155.5 and 185's are all a bit scarce at times.
