Hallo Martin,

" has a laminate stock which is also wrong for the year " " the stock came good in the end "

I am confused by what you say. As far as I know, Mauser Oberndorf started to introduce laminated stocks with flat buttplates such as the one on your rifle in 1937. Yours is probably an early 38 made one but it could well be the original stock.

It is your rifle to do of course as you please, but IMO it would extremely sad to see it fitted with anything other than a period scope and set of montage.

It looks like you got yourself a very nice K98 :good:

Hi there

I thought they didn't introduce laminate until the tail end of the war. I stand corrected Mr. It's lovely nic now it's been refinished, also protected from the elements.

I know how you feel about the scope and to be honest if a post war scope won't look right I won't be going down that route. It's just an idea at the moment. I did look into putting a ZF41 scope on but after reading up I thought against that one. All I know it's that I would like to see the target at 600yards. ;)

Between me and you I'll probably get a period scope and mounts fitted!

I have one of these on my shopping list, will be getting a scoped one if possible but looking at £1500-£2000 probably and I just bought an AKM not long ago.
