Why did the P13 have a five round magazine? Because the Boer's mauser rifles did and everyone knows that the other guy's rifles are better than the one you are issued! As an outsider in the whole discussion it seems that the British military establishment learned the wrong lessons from the Boer war: ultra long distance rifle shooting with a flat shooting round would dominate future wars and that is the rifle that was developed in the P13 but actually the Boer war was an anomaly in the history of warfare. the 5 round magazine made the P13 easier to handle than a 10 round magazine and since long range accuracy was desired more than volume of fire the 5 round magazine was used.

My take on this from the States. The #1Mk3 and #4MkI were the best bolt action battle rifles ever made!! By the way, the American M1917 Enfield in .30-06 will hold 6 rounds in the magazine. Why? a .30-06 round has a smaller diameter than .303, so the the M1917 magazine could hold 6.

We have three P14s, and are about to acquire a fourth. Superbly accurate bits of kit and strong with it.

I was shooting next to a 30-06 shooter earlier this year, he was well on the money at 1000 yards with a P17 actioned rifle. BTW, I have an original centre slot 9mm Steamboat Willie film here, along with a projector to run it tongueout

I think you'll find the correct designation is 9.5 Pathe.

Back on thread, Fultons are fitting a back position stock to my P14. Reloading with 180Grn SMK's is going to be fun.

Don't ask what pattern tweeds I'm going to team up with it!

I have always fancied a back gun however I am not sure my neck would stand up to it. OT again, you are quite correct, it is a 9,5mm Pathescope film, apparently it is 15 feet long. Sitting next to it is a particularly dodgy film called 'Western Friends'
