In the last week there have been a couple of Finns (M91 and a gorgeous M39 have already gone). Also a Polish Radom M/N lookalike .22 trainer that could be interesting. The M27 on there is as nice as the one I've got which I think you've seen. It has, I think, something in the mag so that it only holds one round however I think that it can be reversed.

Harry Gordon at Section5supply is your man and he has a partner in Germany who will then have it sent to him. I've been quoted £160 all in however this didn't include the transfer fee from seller to his partner.

I'm typing this bit quietly so you won't get upset. I know where there's a M24 Lotta for E120! That one will cost E300 to import.

Hey thanks for the info. Ive seen some lugers on there are and some nice broomhandles. Hopefully "if" I can get going with the 7.3 then thats another route I can get some nice historical pstols.

I miss my lotta, but I dont think ill get another unless its in this country.

This guy has a great section on buying your first mosin that is really useful, that and it provides a very good read. £200 sounds like a reasonable price and I would favour the pre war ex dragoon rifles.

When it comes down to it the description of a mosin as an ill tempered blunderbuss is extremely accurate. But that's all part of the fun. There is nothing like walking onto Stix in the pouring rain, fixing on a ridiculous bayonet (which also comes in handy as a screwdriver!), cranking up the sights and still hitting the target at 900yrds. From my perspective as a relatively new shooter it has been a great education for me in that you can dismantle it with a single tool in a matter of minutes and it is a veryrobust piece of kit. The Guy who I sold my Lotta to still has it and is one of the top brass at my new club . I am doing a historical talk on Mosin Nagants for them soon, and I will be re-united with my old Lotta, may ask if he wants to sell it back to me .

How much are original snipers? By that I mean matching scope and rifle numbers. (The scope serial should be stamped on the receiver)

I heard 2k mentioned and that they are rare as rocking horse poo, is that correct?

Mine is going to be a bitsa. Its a sniper returned to infantry use which will have a scope re-added. I know it won't match but it will cost a bit less doing it this way. The rifle I think is going to be 175, maybe more as it has to go to proof. Should be a fun project and I don't mind it not matching because its cheap as chips.

Original if the scope and rifle went to war as one, and are still matched now, then expensive, that depends on how much someone is willing to pay. I know of one Izhevsk sniper 1942 original matching, not refurbed, owner would not take less than £**** but then he's not selling. I also know of a 1944 Tula thats not for sale. They are rare. Once you find an original if you sell you will not find another, only modern made up repros.
Not all snipers had the scope number stamped on the rifles receiver, Tula made ones just had either ch or cn to denote sniper stamped above the star/arrow on the receiver. Izhevsk snipers have the scope number on the side of the receiver.

Did you have a good look at the barrel, as the reason they were turned to an infantry rifle is that the accuracy was not good enough as a sniper.
Who have you got to drill out the welds/plugs to allow the scope mount to be fitted, (gunsmith ?)don't try this at home please, you will need very strong drill bits as the welds/plugs are hard. You are going to be drilling into part of the receiver if your slightly off centre the mount wont fit.

The barrel looked good and yes a gunsmith will be doing all of the work. It's got to pass proof first but it looked almost unfired condition, very bright bore, good crown.
