budget F/TR setup advise.

ok guys looking to build a nice step for shooting F/TR, we are only talking club level as i don't have the time, skill or money to be worth competing.

looking for a little advise on a set up, we will be shooting out to 1k with a mix all the way from 200yrd. i have around £2500 to spend all in.

I'm thinking

Savage 12 F/TR .308win
SIGHTRON SIIISS 10-50x60mm
Mystic Precision Bipod

by shopping around can get this lot in my budget, so what do you guys think? does it look ok or are there better setups for around £2500

That's an excellent spec. and will allow you to shoot at the highest level.

My only slight amendment would be to swap the 10-50 Sightron for an 8-32 Sightron - the bigger mag. model is a bit critical on eye relief and you don't need 50 power to see a spotting disc at 1000 yards.

The Mystic and Sightron will set you back £1000 which leaves £1500 for the rifle - a new one is a bit more I think but have a word with Stuart at Osprey Rifles - he might have something s/h.

Incidentally, Laurie Holland (F/TR GB Team member) has been running a series of articles on budget F/TR rifles in Target Shooter.

I think you'll be lucky to get the Savage for that price, last price I was quoted was £1800, but my memory isn't special. Lovely rifle though, I do like the trigger.

My budget F/TR is a Swing with a newish Border barrel, Sightron 8x32 and a shooting shed bipod. Don't think it cost me more than £2K all in, and it will take me a long time and much learning to get the best from it.

thats for there advise guy, tbh I'm seriously considering doing a personal import, as EB still Havant brought any in to the country for the last 7 months sign01

hopefully the lower usa prices will offset the fees for taking it out the usa

I was quoted $399 for a export permit that can cover 2 rifles and 2 scopes

I might have to but the rifle I want and another to sell.

Since I will have the permit I will also be able to export ammo parts so plan to get 1000 lapua cases and 1000 lapua bullets

That sounds like a good plan, in fact it's more or less what I did myself. I have a pair of Savage 12 F's, one 6.5x284 I bought for £1,200 from Garlands about 5 years ago and the other in 6mmbr I built from bits. The action I bought from NW custom guns and the barrel I bought direct from Shilens in the US as a personal import. It has a Rifle basix SAV-2 trigger bought direct from RB, a 20moa sight rail direct from Ken Farrell (US) and a Richards microfit stock direct from Richards (US).

Of course, being a Savage you only need a spanner to change the barrel. :)

Both probably capable with the right ammo / barrel combo, if well beded & a bit of tuning to 1/4 MoA.
