Hi greenshoots. I briefly toyed with buying a rifle from france last year, the process was incredibly simple. I would assume the reverse is just as easy.

I have one piece of advice only, contact your local firearms licensing department who will guide you through the process. Lincolnshire were most helpful and enquiry to purchase COULD have been completed in days. I didnt complete as I found what I wanted locally.

Good luck.

If you intend to take the gun to France and sell it, fairly straightforward.

If you intend to do the deal by post / courier, you need an export licence or an agent with one ( I know some good ones).

If the Frenchman thinks he can collect the gun here and export it personally, he can't unless it's a S2 shotgun (or for some bizarre reason he holds a UK FAC).

Ian has summed it up nicely, also it is worth noting that it is not just firearms, some parts thereof will also require an export licence.

Shout if you get stuck, we ship parts out to France from time to time.

Mr NRA Firearms Manager,

It seem my initial post did not passed censorship, therefore, I put it in other terms:

Sound advice from an official to recommend smuggling a rifle into a country. European Firearms Pass is needed and implies return in the country of origin.

Ovenpaa, this, as far as France is concerned, does not apply to parts, as most are not classified (5th category)

I don't think that anyone suggested smuggling a firearm into France R.G.C. It's a given that a EFP is required as most shooters will know.
I have done it the other way on two occasions and purchased rifles in France and brought them back and the process couldn't have been easier. Unfortunately a visitor to this country will require a FAC so it's not possible or at least as easy for a Frenchman to buy a rifle in this country and return with it to France.

There is actually some information on the process and paperwork required in the back of the H.O. guidance to police document.
