Handling of Sect 1 Shotguns.

There seems to be great debate and discussion about the legalities of an individual handling an LBP/LBR that doesn't belong to them and that they are not authorised to to own under their FAC. General consensus appears to be that you are not allowed to handle one, is that correct?

Also, what is the position regarding an individual using a Sect 1 shotgun if they do not have that on their FAC?

hopefully now Iain has returned from his Hols (welcome back Iain), and he has fought his way though his emails he will be finding out the definitive answer on LBR/LBP from Surrey Police / HMO in his role as NRA Firearms Manager and Liaison Officer.

Consensus is one thing, what the Police and HMO say is the only thing we should be listening too. It might be that you can handle a club LBR/LBP but not and individuals.

The answer from this might be similar to the Shotgun question.

As has been said, its what the HO and FLD's say on the matter that counts first, then if you find yourself being prosecuted, what the court says :roll:

For my 2p's worth it i think it would have to be some uber-Nazi d!ckhead with several sticks up their @r$e to try to bring a prosecution for just handling a S1 shotgun/LBR. Actively shooting it would be another issue i suppose but its still meaningless paperwork which has absolutely NOTHING to do with public safety

As far as I remember you need to be authorised by permission on your own FAC to USE a LBP/LBR

As above, to USE a S.1 s/g the user MUST have such a slot on their own FAC.

As far as "handling" no idea; unless it is on the same footing as S.5 = illegal to handle unless you are also a S.5 holder. May well be the case!!

From what I gather, this is the reason why most clay grounds, whilst happy for semis and pumps to go round, don't like having S1 semis or pumps. Should something go awry on a stand, only those with authority for that particular gun can take control of it....

:lol: More like stuffy walnut/blued barrel obsessed club secretaries don't like them!

Something could 'going awry' at a PSG/TSG event or while friends were out pigeon shooting, the 'sticky situation' would be no different than at a clay ground, other than at a clay ground there might well be secure premises for the gun to be stored in until the police arrive/the situation is resolved.

The only thing clay grounds need to check which is different for S1 guns to S2 guns, is that the person using the S1 gun has the clay pigeon condition on their certificate

Basically, he said that if I was to have a heart attack or trip and hurt myself, there was no one else there to take "control" of the gun, legally....

He didn't seem to like my 24.1" sxs "coach gun" either.....

So does anyone know how this works with guest days? My club has a guest day at the end of May and I was planning on taking a friend to shoot my guns supervised by me including my Sec 1 shotgun. I assume this is allowed in the same way he could shoot my sec 1 rifle?
