Cleaning Rod Guides

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I have just finished polishing these cleaning rod guides and thought a group picture would be good.

Left to right:

1 Blaser R93 300WSM
2 Blaser R93 270 WSM
3 Blaser R93 9,3x62 Mauser
4 Nesika .308 Ported CRG
5 Sako 75 270 WSM CRG
6 Sako 85 .222 CRG
7 Sauer 202 Standard CRG
8 Sauer 202 Long CRG
9 Sako 75 6,5x55 Ported CRG
10 Accuracy International 7,62x51 CRG
11 Accuracy International 7,62x51 Bolt Carrier

All are machined from hand polished 6082T6 and are fitted with Nitrile O rings and have an enlarged rear section of bore to prevent cleaning fluid squishing out all over the place, the choice of materials means they do not give cleaning patches false indications, will not harm the receiver or chamber and the O rings serve the purpose of both locking in the guide and preventing the bleed back of cleaning fluid into the receiver or magazine well.

The 9,3x62 Blaser is just not capable of taking an O ring on the nose so it is set against the body, the second O ring on the Blaser guides is to lock the guide into the Action body.

A worthwhile polishing session even if I am several shades darker than I was when I started the job. Oddly enough the part I dislike doing most of all is machining the knurling, the majority are going to UK customers however the Blaser guides are destined for Norway.

Very nice - Looks like they should be in an operating theater next to the scalpel and forceps.

If an archaeologist digs one up in a couple of hundred years they will be convinced it was used for the treatment of syphilis. :)
