Probably a stupid question but
I am just about to apply to join a club that does practical shotgun .
Good excuse to get a sec 1 pump action .
now i have a list and there all 'marine ' finish
anyway if i want to shoot slug can i use a multi choke and just fit cylinder choke or does it need to be a 'slug' barrel ?
If i need a slug barel does this need to be on my ticket seperately ?

Re: Probably a stupid question but
I shoot slug through improved cylinder in a normal 24" barrel (supernova) - no problem there. Just experiment with which choke is most accurate with slug but stick to the bigger ones ie less constricted.

Re: Probably a stupid question but
As Jon says, what do you mean by a 'slug barrel'? Manufacturers sometimes refer to any barrel with ghost ring sights as a 'slug barrel' others make rifled shotgun barrels specifically to use with a certain type of slug round but they are illegal to put on a semi or pump in this country.
Either way just use the normal barrel that comes with the shotgun. Also you can put rifled slugs through any choke up to Full (although personally I wouldn't go beyond 1/2 (modified), but you generally get better accuracy the wider the choke you use.

Assuming you already have an FAC remember you need to have "slug" added aswell, and if you want to use the sec 1 shotgun for target and clays make sure you also get that added then there's no comeback, that's what I did anyway.

Re: Probably a stupid question but
I was under the impression that the standard shotgun barrel tended to be more restricted towards the muzzle end and that a 'slug' barrel would be parallel along its bore.
I was concerned that a slug would be restricted by a standard barrel and because a problem, from the information received I appear to have that wrong.
So the Mossberg slugster is probably a standard barrel with sights?
was asking as i just want lead to be heading towards the target and not the last 6 inches of barrel.

Most modern semi/pump shotguns are multi-choked i.e. the barrel is threaded and you can put anything from cylinder to extra full choke in. I would ask before you order/buy it though as if its a fixed choke (probably cylinder - i.e. no choke) and you're going to use it for anything other than slug shooting you're going to be at a disadvantage/ineffective
