FAC Question

#1 Post by walesdave »

Hi All,

Just looking over my FAC and noticed the slot for a .44 LBR just has the caliber .44 and Type 'Pistol'; doesn't say Long Barrelled or anything else.

Is this normal? I asked for the slot for a LBR but to my untrained eye it looks like I could get a any type of .44 'Pistol' that I want.

Cheers

Clarify it with your firearms department it will only take a minute or two to send an email. Doesn't sound right to me. My certificate clearly stated long barreled revolver.

My LBR slot states: "REVOLVER - Long Barrel".

The nearest thing to yours is my ML slot "PISTOL - Muzzle Loading".

I wouldn't be in a rush to go out and get a .44 Colt Python just yet - does seem odd they wouldn't be more explicit on your cert though.

A couple of years back a friend of mine had a slot for a 303 pistol!

We were all in the queue to have ago!

There were some very, very rare Pythons prototyped in .44 special. They'd probably cost a half a million dollars! They never made production. Pythons were .357 magnum, with some scarce .38 specials.

Colt's .44 magnum was the Anaconda. Externally looking like a Python on steroids, but never as nicely finished or so well fitted.

I'll never forgive them for taking mine in the "Great Theft of '97"!

I reckon the .44 pistol on the OP's FAC is meant for a muzzle loader......... But, go on, I dare you, try and get a Desert Eagle!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Whoops, I was thinking as I wrote it "was the Python .44?" but just guessed it was available in the bigger caliber too.

Shame Colt don't make a Python or Anaconda LBR though...

I think this might go back to my original grant - nearly nine years ago now.

Gwent FLO really dragged their heels over my application because I had only been back in the UK for 4 years when applying and they wanted a 5 year address history. After 6 or 7 months of messing about, I finally had enough and told them that if the application wasn't processed promptly I would be making an IPCC complaint. The next day I got a phone call to say my certificate had been printed as was ready for collection! I wonder if in their haste they made a mistake and forgot to add the LBR bit??

As it happens, I'm in Israel in a few weeks and a friend works for IMI - if they still make them, maybe I'll get a .44 Eagle straight from the factory floor

FYI: spoke to Gwent FLO about this. Girl on the phone opened up a copy of my FAC on her PC and said I'd have probably been ok to buy a Section 5 with the way the certificate was worded!! I was about to rush out when she said she'd madethe change to .44LBR on the computer and it would be reflected on the next FAC I get printed. :bad:
