Just a heads up here about the legality issues around air rifle silencers on rimfires.

Air rifle silencers moderators are not restricted and can legally be sold without an fac for the purpose of fitting to an air rifle, however if you intend to fit one onto a rimfire then you should have a suitable slot on your FAC and have the moderator entered. This is a bit of a grey area as far as I can recall however prudence should be applied here and at the very least if you intend to use an air rifle moderator on a rimfire you should first get your Firearms Licensing Offices take on it.

Until I am told otherwise as to the legality I have edited the OP.

:wales: I think it revolves around both intent and useage. If you have an air rifle to which said silencer / moderator CAN be fitted then there is no issue. If however you were to have a 22 rimfire which was threaded and no air rifle that would show intent, possession would then be very suspect.Actually using it it without variation / slot would be illegal. That's my take on the situation .

Yep Matin that is what I am saying.

If you want to use a silencer of any kind on a .22rf then you need an appropriate slot on your FAC to do so.

This was not clear from the OP which could have been interpreted as some one selling off ticket silencers for FAC use.

Even the Home Office Guide appears unclear

Sound Moderators
13.71 Sound moderators are subject to
certificate control as “items designed to
reduce the noise or flash of a firearm”. Sound
moderators for .22 rimfire rifles are often
used for shooting game or vermin, and in the
case of the latter might facilitate more
effective pest control. Sound moderators for
full-bore rifles are of questionable
effectiveness in reducing disturbance to quarry
but can confuse them by diffusing the
directional report of a rifle. They may though
be appropriate for reducing hearing damage
to the shooter, or to reduce noise nuisance,
for example for deer control in urban parks.
The applicant will be expected to demonstrate
a “good reason” for noise reduction before
authority is granted. It should be noted that
sound moderators on air weapons or section
2 shot guns are not considered to be
component parts. Chief officers of police
should also be aware of the case of Broome v
Walter (1989) where it was found that an
integral sound moderator, that is one that
is part of the firearm, does not require
separate authorisation.

But moderators for anything bur air guns do need to be on your certificate but do not count as a seperate 'firearm' on your total.

Years ago, I bought an 'Air Rifle' moderator without certificate from a gun shop but got my certificate altered to include 'sound moderator' it is listed as a seperate item and not associated on the certificate with the .22.

However I have no idea of the legalities of selling them seperately.

Best bet would be to contact your own FEO as I don't doubt areas will put a different slant on it.

HTH?

please ammend as you require to be interpreted. As there is no edit on the OP, it a little difficult to spell out in simple English what these are, they are 1/2 unf fit moderators..These are what they are, no matter how you read the ad, air is air.

177 / 22 air only / no ticket required.

1 - 1/2 unf parker hale > £sold
1- 1/2 unf wierach >£sold AIR

1- 1/2 unf uk neil >£ sold

1 - Reduced...evo Rapid 7 slip on .1 is- std fit , £20
1 is wiehach internals >£30 >Rapid 7 AIR

1- logun mk1 1/2 unf. £ - £35 > in box AIR
