Sierra 150 SP2300 and the .303

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

Can anyone suggest any loads for the Sierra 150 grain soft point in a humble .303 rifle?

I have N140 and TR 140 which I usually use to load the .303 albeit usually with 174 grain SMKs.

Humble, ooman, humble ?

.303 saw off the Hun, then the Nazis, then countless other foreigners in post '45 skirmishes such as Korea.

It has nothing to be humble about.

This is not some b****** Bubba rifle, this is a post war BSA with the MkIII receiver devoid of military stamps and bashes. I suspect BSA had a load hanging around when the War Office started to call for the No1 MkIII* SMLE. Come the end of the war and demand for SMLEs they used the parts up to build Sporting rifles and this is one of them.

I have spent a couple of days cleaning the bore and will clean the furniture and metalwork over the next few days. Nothing drastic just a gentle wipe over with methylated spirits and a gentle oiling.

People pay a princely sum for that down in Soho. So we are told...
