You might try European ammo makers , one may make 22LR tracer , I know years ago , Geco of germany did , as I brought some , and used it , not cheap mind you , and then the very next day some p*** ant , went to all the trouble of painting a sign of the standing rules of the pistol Club , and you guessed IT , down the bottom , at # 14 , was Tracer ammo is not allowed to be used on this range .

That person , must have spent a day hand painting that sign , I can think of better , more interesting stuff to do , like shoot ALL my 22 tracer thru my Beretta M76 pistol at 25yds .

Hi Folks,
I have an old box of Eley squirrled away but they were only effective at longer than 30mtrs and our military ranges don't allow their use, (Squaddies setting gorse on fire!)
Anyone got an opinion as to whether tracer falls under section 5?

They don't. I've done a sheet of A4 on this before. Will have a look for it.

Tracer is not sec 5.
You can buy 308 and 223 tracer bullets, freely, and also 308 tracer rounds.
And 50bmg!
Have seen 223 tracer rounds but not for a while.
Great fun and informative at places like Sennybridge.
I would buy 22 tracer as I fired the last 3 rounds I had last year!
They were RWS incidentally.

Had lost this thread. Have also unfortunately lost the aforementioned document. From memory, the thrust was that tracer is legal.

RWS/DynamitNobel made the best tracer for .22. It would ignite about 30-50yds down range and stay lit until about 200-250yds.

Eley would start burning at about the same distance but ran out way before 100yds.

I have a few boxes of each left, they only get used on the ETR when we have a night shoot, which is not very often, and they are always a blast.

BTW, I spoke to Eley at the ShotShow a few years ago and the guy on the stand told me that not only did they remove the tracer making machines, they actually burnt them as it was the easiest way to 'defuse' any potential build-up residual powder etc. So I guess Eley won't be remaking them any time soon.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.
