I'm struggling to find a nice looking/practical range bag and wondered what everyone else uses. I think 50cm x 30cm x 30cm is probably about right for me and these are about the best I've found so far.
Fishing bags are cheaper & also have lots of little pockets etc too, the ones that fold out to make a stool are good.
Beware of the 2nd rule of entropy also known as the rule of piffle = the bigger the bag the more chaotic its contents will become, & newtons 2nd law of junk = Junk will continue to expand to occupy what ever space it is provided & the Darwinian evolutionary theory of baggage - where bigger species bag becomes bag on trolley, becomes bag on golf buggy!

Thanks for the reply. Yes I figured there were probably some laws of physics that applied here. Just like a woman's handbag, where the bottom 10% is empty tic-tac containers, loose tissues, receipts and lint...
Price isn't a concern, I just want something that's practical and looks nice. I did have a look at fishing and camera bags, but couldn't find anything the right size. I think I'll probably go with the top bag unless someone changes my mind soon.

Ammo goes into right pocket, either in charger clips or box depending on calibre, breech flag, empties and split case extractor go left. Score card and pencil go top left, bore snake top right.
Everything else is in a Plano Range Box
you could consider a drag bag ? loads of pockets and can be left rifle specific so you just need to pop the rifle and ammo in and your ready to rock and roll?
I like the 5.11 kit, its well made and very hard wearing. The guys at tactical kit are very pleasant to deal with amd loxal to me.

Have you tried laying out all of your kit on the floor to see what size bag you need? We have tried numerous range bags over the years and they all get discarded eventually.
These days with my Accuracy International if it does not fit in the pockets of an L96 type drag bag it stops in the car so typically 3-4 22 round boxes, Sordins, two magazines, bolt in holder, waterproof trousers, a rear squeeze bag, range finders (Optional), shooting glasses and a very modest first aid kit. My shooting mat will fit inside the drag bag as well.
I have a small tool kit and broken case extractors etc stop in the car along with more ammunition, radios and other odds and ends. For rifles in normal slips I use a Snugpak response pak to hold similar. For S Class if it does not go in a pocket it does not leave the car.
My personal view is people carry far too many things to the point and never use or need them. As an RCO I am staggered by the size and number of range bags some shooters haul around, it slows down change overs no end...

I've got one of the Tactical Jack patrol bags that I use for work. They are big. You can get loads of stuff in them, but for me, it would be too big as a range bag. They are very well made. Mine has taken years of abuse being overfilled and thrown from locker to car, to locker, to van. I have a couple of other bags by 5.11 and Tactical Tailor, and the Tac Jack are on par.
For one rifle shooting then I use a Pattern '37 side pack amply big enough for ammo, carbide lamp, segmented cleaning rod, small Chapman tool roll, toweling etc. If I'm shooting a comp then a Pattern '37 map case is added for score cards, pens , pencils and the like. Depending on the stand being used the spotting scope is tied to the side pack or just folded up in the shooting mat, Parker hale type stand. Or just carried if the Freeland stand is in use. You will never go wrong with Pattern 37 web kit. For carrying bulk stuff in the car or to the point when I'm having a multiple rifle day then I'm a big fan and user of the MTM range of ammo and kit boxes. They get big enough for shooting rests and such like. Also make good seats and a handy step for getting in and out of deep firing pits.

It ain't cheap but I pack like a woman and it is great if you ever travel overseas to shoot. I can get everything in one bag...rifle (works great for AR style or folding AIs), ammo, tool kits, mat, spotting scope & tripod, wet weather gear and all the rest of the junk i carry that i'm too embarrassed to admit to.
