Is this the type of rear target (Alfred Parker) sight you mean?

Yes that is a target rear sight and is what I use for long range shooting. For short range (out to 600 yds) I use the issued, non windage adjustable rear sight and aim off.
As I said earlier different brands/batches of ammunition will have different zero's. Use one brand or be forever re-zeroing.

OK, from what you've said it seems as long as I stick with the same ammo I should be OK with the front sight adjustment on the No.4 Mk.2. Thanks for your help, I think I know what I'm up to now.

Cheers,

Craig.

Indeed - once you zero the foresight blade to your own eye then you shouldn't need to re-set it unless different brands of ammo push you seriously off target. I have a No.4 I assembled from various spare parts I found lying around in gunshops and have shot it, with service sights and aiming off, at 1000yds. Remarkably good fun when you get the V-bull!

The last SMLEs' made were the Ishapore 7.62 ones .They look a bit agricultural but are made of much superior steel and are made from new to be 7.62 .I have one and it's very accurate and I don't have to worry too much about keeping it shiny and unmarked ,it's a 2A1 Ishy ,ten shot mag and still in service in parts of India. :flag6:
