I have just cast some slugs and swaged them to .325" so they have a nice smooth clean finish, I can swage them down a bit more if you wish, they went through my die very cleanly so should be OK.

Let me know :)

Hi

With the help of ovenpaa supplier of the lead slugs, both my Mosin Nagants have been barrel slugged, with the result they are sized to .311 So now I need to reload a slightly bigger dia FMJ bullet.

Was the slugging process easy enough and did the slugs hold up OK?

Hi ovenpaa,
Thank you.

Yes they worked as they should, I used the short ones first as you suggested, then the longer ones, to try and get a consistent measurement. This was achieved, and suggest anyone who is not sure the bullet diameter they should use in there rifle, slug the barrel, but ask advise first..

Thank you also to dromia for the info.

Good to hear, I will cast and swage a few more in case anybody else wants to try the same and needs some slugs.

Had one of those, flame thrower with Chinese 7.62x54, muzzle blast is just that. Loved the wee click from the bolt as the trigger was set to release. Kicked like a mule at times but for under £200 what the hell, a fun gun, I shot it with the bayonet folded.

Hi.

Latest update on the 7.62x54r bullets, after slugging the barrel now using .311dia (not .308) 174gr FMJ bullets, gave it a blast today at Bisley 100yds, wow that was fun, not such good grouping as the (Mauser) spread slightly wider just over the 4" mark, fired 40 shots, that will do for a short barrel carbine. The muzzle flash is amazing... 8-)
