Just a quick question, when I buy a rifle do i send my FAC back to the police for the rifle to be put on or does it just get written in by the person selling me it? If I have to send it in, is there any time frame?

Just want to make sure I will have it back for the Shooting show :?

When you buy a rifle the person selling it to you has to complete Table 1 on your FAC. You then have seven days to notify your licensing authority that you have acquired the gun along with the details entered in Table 1. You do not need to return your FAC, the completeing of Table 1 enters the rifle on you certificate and negates that permission to acquire on your FAC. When you send in your FAC for a variation or at renewal time they will do the ammends then.

Some authorities accept a letter others like Northumberland have a proforma for you to complete and return for notifying them of an acquisition or disposal of a gun.

Essex police allow you to notify them via e-mail of a purchase, see if your police authority will accept it done this way, saves a lot of time.

We need pictures.

Bedfordshire accept emails however we always confirm with written letter as well. When you sell a rifle and advise the police include a 1:1 variation within 7 days to replace the slot or you will loose it off your FAC which means GBP25 to get it back :(
