Re: Shooting Show
Trouble is tack, more and more I see those in the shooting sports tearing strips of each other in the vane hope that they will be the one's seen to be acceptable....
There are plenty of aspects of the sport that doesn't in any way float my boat, but if it's your bag, then good luck to you. If only more just left others alone.
Were we really that more tolerant then.....?

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Sim G wrote:I seem to remember hundreds, if not thousands of competitors during the Anno Domini meetings wandering around the trade tents with holstered pistols and revolvers..... Never appeared to raise an eyebrow then, never mind have someone branded a "walt"....
As they say " the past is a different country" but even in those days there was a ban on camoflauge clothing and I also remember the NRA visiting certain trade stands and insisting that certain items be removed from sale.
Strangely enough there was a trade stand at last years phoenix meeting where all the staff wore desert cammo clothing and tee shirts with what I considered distasteful slogans but obviously they thought it funny. I'm not agreeing with censorship but perhaps they should have considered how some would perceive it.
Re: Shooting Show
And for all those defending the airsofters wandering around in full MTP/multicam with their airsoft pistols dangling off their belts, I presume you'll all be rushing to defend the next "MILITARY FANTASISTS BUY DEADLY ASSAULT RIFLES AT GUN SHOW" articles in the Sun, Mirror or Star?
Public perception is the key to maintaining our sport, and possibly even regaining some of the items we've lost as a direct result of losing public support over the years. People who like to dress up in current issue uniform and point guns at each other are not the sort of thing I think we should be associating with legal and safe shooting.
Anyway, I'm clearly in a minority here so I shall concede.

Re: Shooting Show
Airsoft....what about paintball?....And activity many enjoy (even more probably than shooting at the moment) Dressing in Issue Uniform....what about the as issued shooters with old issued rifles?...they'd dress for the part of the whole experience if there was a crowd. Pointing guns at each other...Airsoft and Paintball are the only shooting sports that do that...because they are too weak to blow someones head off...and they always wear body armour when skirmishing.Gaz wrote:And for all those defending the airsofters wandering around in full MTP/multicam with their airsoft pistols dangling off their belts, I presume you'll all be rushing to defend the next "MILITARY FANTASISTS BUY DEADLY ASSAULT RIFLES AT GUN SHOW" articles in the Sun, Mirror or Star?

Actually - if you gave the public a referendum -
What shall we ban next - real guns or toy guns, they will vote to ban real guns.
The average non shooter probably has no problem with individuals playing war games with toy guns. They are more worried about real guns !!
So, in reality perception issues does not come into it.
Re: Shooting Show
Quick question, Gaz. How many and what did the government confiscate from you because of the 1988 Ammendment? How many and what did you have taken from you because of the 1997 Ammendment? Or now have "air pistols" on ticket that are worthless?
Perhaps it's because I have and at the time was repeated the mantra, "respectful distance, image projected, blah, blah." Regardless, they took my guns and killed my sport. As I've said, I read every day those shooters tearing strips off each other in order to look the most benign....
Didn't work then, won't work now. The next Sun story will be just as big a hatchet job, just this time, there'll be "proper quotes"......
You could drape the whole of Bisley Pavillion in MTP for all I'm bothered now. "Rather a day on the feet, than a life on the knees!"
"They're coming for our guns" of that there is no doubt. I'mm now 45. I've been shooting since I was 8. I very much doubt I'll be spending my retirement on the range. But between now and then, I'm going to shoot as much as I can and I implore others to do likewise. And if "GI Joe" is putting money into tills that keep places alive whilst I do, then I thank their cammo'd, fantasist dream world!!!!

Re: Shooting Show
I'm sitting on the fence on this one but I've just been reading the comments on another website and will say you are certainly not on your own Gaz. Some of the comments have been very witty but the sentiments expressed leave you in no doubt as to what most of the posters think of the airsoft enactors that they saw at Stoneleigh.Gaz wrote:And for all those defending the airsofters wandering around in full MTP/multicam with their airsoft pistols dangling off their belts, I presume you'll all be rushing to defend the next "MILITARY FANTASISTS BUY DEADLY ASSAULT RIFLES AT GUN SHOW" articles in the Sun, Mirror or Star?

Re: Shooting Show
We have to fight to consolidate what we have left....as a whole or not at all. Petty arguements between S/S and O/U....and which style is better do nothing but divide us ready for conquer. What would the Govt do if FAC/SGC holders refused to surrender firearms on masse if they changed the law again? No violence needed from us....they'd have to break down every door to every home we all live in...that or send the Army and after NI I doubt they'd want to get involvedSim G wrote:Quick question, Gaz.
