the Sun story
Just met the Sun journo who wrote the story about the Sr-22. He's at the shooting show! Interesting to hear gist pov - they're "trying to start a debate" and the newsdesk put the misleading headline and first para on the story. I can believe that in all honesty, although the debate part makes me uneasy.
Re: the Sun story
"Trying to start a debate" in other words Trying to ban another firearm class" I posted a link in the Grump Old foogies thread under the Cregan trial which is to the Home Affair Select commitee minutes from 2000....they pretty much state that any more bans would do absolutely nothing for public safety and even say that the 1997 acts were doo doo

Headline writing is not something they would want to leave to mere hacks!Gaz wrote:Just met the Sun journo who wrote the story about the Sr-22. He's at the shooting show! Did you ask him what he was doing at the show? Did he have a photographer in tow?

He was probably pornographicating the pretty blond boys in their Aryan supremacist flak jackets and pink MP5s...The Cupcake Kid wrote:Did he have a photographer in tow?

I had never read that, nor it seems have any politicians!
Re: the Sun story
At the show on Saturday and as I am wizing round on my scooter in a clear space, I spotted a guy with a big moovy camera panning round.
Thinking he would move over I drove for him, just missed but he has a full screen picture of my ugly mug. If he was a Sun person Iwould have got him.

Re: the Sun story
I didn't myself, but the RFD he was interviewing (which is how I clocked him - a shorthand notebook sticks out a mile to another journo!) said it was because he'd had so many complaints about the previous story. He was rather reluctant to be identified as "that" Sun hack, which struck me as a bit cowardly. Never file a story you can't defend in person. The Cupcake Kid wrote:Headline writing is not something they would want to leave to mere hacks!Gaz wrote:Just met the Sun journo who wrote the story about the Sr-22. He said his original brief was 600ish factual words, and blamed the sub-editors for stripping out the bulk of those facts. In fairness to him, there's nothing other than the headline and standfirst that can be said to be outright wrong.
I'm guessing that his editors sent him down to do a "neutral/slightly positive" story about the shooting show. Whether that's the actual outcome is anyone's guess - certainly the RFD, who was photographed holding one of his wares, was a bit apprehensive.

Re: the Sun story
"Harsh...", but fair? I have just read about two thirds of the firearms report cited by Jnadreth;fascinating. Everyone should have a read.
Re: the Sun story
Didn't the guy who wrote it get arrested shortly after it was published for the cash for questions malarkey?
I would have asked him about that
I would have asked him about that
