The security regarding safe keeping of my Firearms has remained unchanged for years. steel cabinets within a cellar. Steel faced alarmed fire check door, alarmed movement detector in the the cellar. etc etc. On renewal of FAC The police visit and check that reg numbers on my firearms tally with the firearms I hold and that I do actually still have them in my possession. If they didn't do this periodically then it would be possible for someone to say lose one, and conceal its loss for many years. Resulting in an unlicensed firearm in circulation. So I guess I am not in favour of less visits. any opinions

The most worrying thing about this is that it will be used as the antis as a stick to beat us with, if it can't be policed then withdraw it will no doubt be the arguement.

When I renewed my SGC by phone last month it turned out I still had one shotgun that they had recorded as scrapped off despite it being a computer entry on my certificate, not an inspiring start to the conversation...

Where do you draw the line on these "visits" Jenks. 5 yearly, every 3 or maybe even yearly. Go the whole hog and make it monthly maybe. I think we are given our firearms because we are trustworthy and responsible people. Taking this into account, I think on renewal of our tickets a visit by some one competant, even a member of the public working for the Police is just about right.

Ita a little like a guard watching a pile of gold, so we employ another guard to watch the first guard, but who is watching the guard who is watching the second guard, who is watching the first guard. It could go on forever, but a line has to be drawn and trust must be given. I believe we have that trust, and we should not abuse it in any way regarding our firearms. Hope this makes sense.

I think if FEO's actually did random inspections like they're supposed to it would eliminate this problem! I'm yet to hear of anyone who's had one!

yeah...there is a similar thread running below...

This suspension of visits obviously comes down to money - or lack of it.

No way can our FAC fee pay for admin. and the visit of a police officer. He must be out of office for at least two hours.

If it costs £40 to call out a washing-machine repair man, think what a copper costs!

I predict a steep rise in the fee. A dealer pays £150 every three years for exactly the same 'service'.

I have never had a visit from the Police off the cuff so to speak,,,all the visits that I have had have all been pre-arranged

For renewals and or address changes,,,,so I guess there must be a level of trust there,, shall we say they know who's who, and who to watch,,,,that said I would welcome any visit at any time by the Police to check my guns and security etc,,,
No problems, no worries,,,,I have nothing to hide and all is above board,, if a copper knocked on my door tonight asking to check my guns I would welcome it,,why wouldnt I??,,,,Job done there would then be a cuppa slice of cake and a chat afterwards...

My visits are always booked in advance and I looked forward to them, a chance to catch up on some gossip and hear about any potential changes afoot. So no issues with a visit.

Now here is a question for everyone, you are driving along with your rifles in the car and are stopped for a 'routine check' by a police car, now given that they should have your car details on the system and accordingly know you are an FAC holder how would you feel about being stopped?

Doesn't the Police have to have good reason to stop you...broken light etc?

Are you suggesting they might stop you because of your firearms tag?
