seems like tragic accidents, twisted and used as scare stories by the anti's! as to your title, if they were ricochets, then unless your backstop was the North face of the Eiger (devoid of climbers, skiers, freegliders, parapents, train drivers et al) I see no way you could prevent such a million in one occurance (and before someone points out that there are two incidents, how many shots have been fired in between? )

I've heard of two tragedies like this .. Both avoidable ..
1) a man shooting at an elk in Sweden .. Elk on the crest of a hill .. The round went through the beast ... You can figure out the rest ..
2) someone shooting at a pigeon on the roof of a barn with a .22lr .. Missed the bird and the round richocheted off the roof killing someone the other side of a field ..
Both "flukes" but both avoidable !!

Shooting at a target on the skyline (without a known RDA behind - military ranges) is negligence not accident.

Ricochet? Hmmmm....I think the title of this thread says it all.

i didn't see the bit in the original articles posted saying either was on a skyline?John25 wrote:Shooting at a target on the skyline (without a known RDA behind - military ranges) is negligence not accident.

not really, if the bullet ricocheted off a bone then all bets are off about backdrop, as the angle would divert the bullet path in a totally unpredictable direction,as to whether the bullet would be able to travel a mile under those circumstances ? I'm not convinced, however, we are talking about fluke conditions. As to a "shoot through" under those circumstances, I agree with john25, sheer negligence !Dombo63 wrote:Ricochet?
