Fully tooled up with rifles (my case pistol, rifle and knife x3) and a wee flustered doll from the flight company asking us individually if we'd packed our own baggage, etc. The comments and jokes she was a butt of! She wasn't to know we didn't have any ammo, but her face communicated how stupid she felt.

Got to hand it to them though. They did manage to stay professional an keep their knickers on, no matter what outrageous lengths the guys went, to get into the mile high club.

..and I remember reading about one of the GB TR teams (Under 21's maybe) They trundled through departures when one of them was pulled for having a .308 round in her kit. Despite checking and rechecking it had been missed, the good news is the authorities were very upbeat about the whole affair and I can recall a picture of the young lady in question with some armed bobbies or similar.

Ian, do you recall this event?

  Amazing how paranoid we are in the UK..Empty cases "SHOCK HORROR, JINGS, CRIVENS, HELP MA BOAB" Oooer! - useless things really - but causing so much FEAR and alarm! A lipstick holder is pretty well the same and no one would think twice if one fell on the floor.

We seriously are screwed up here.

When I was a kid, probably nine or ten years old, I found a live shotgun cartridge in a residential street about a mile from where I lived. Of course when you are nine years old there's really only one thing you want to do with live ammo so I spent the walk home throwing it at the floor.

When I got in it took pride of place on my shelf in my bedroom the brass end all scratched and with chunks missing. You can imagine my parents reaction when they found it. I recall a nice lady in a uniform coming to the house and asking me lots of questions, where I found it, where had I been etc (with the police on a summer holiday activity scheme as it had happened!).

The moral of the story, those warnings on the sides of the boxes are there for a reason.
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.
