Any archers in?
Evenin' all.
Just out of interest, does anyone on here also partake in archery?
It's something I've been interested in for a while, but I've never done anything about it, until October this year, when I attended an archery beginners' course and obtained a "certificate", if you will, to say I'm alright with a bow. Apparently this competency certificate is recognised by all UK archery clubs, and is actually needed to join one.
There's a local club in my town, so I'll probably join that.
So, does anyone loose arrahs around 'ere?

Re: Any archers in?
Used to be a member of a private archery club. Still have my recurve.
Re: Any archers in?
Mereheath, I'm probably wrong, but are those the "flat" bows? Unlike the English, or long bow that's a "D" in cross section?
One thing I found odd when talking to the archers who ran the local club is that there's no certificates or anything like that for bows. You just buy a bow and arrows and off you go.
Wow... can you imagine partaking in a shooting event that's not looked on like a dirty secret and is actually socially acceptable?
So, question, if I may; assuming I join a club. Do I literally just toddle off and buy a bow and arrows and ta-dah, I can shoot. No paperwork, no nothing? Is there a restriction on draw weight. I doubt I'd be able to pull a 150lb warbow, but I'm a history buff, so one day I'd like an English bow, if I take up the sport

Shot bows since I was about 15. Recurves (target and hunting), longbows (clout shooting), compounds (hunting), horsebows (my favourite type of bow), flat bows and crossbows.

Shoot a recurve and at times a compound. Was a member of Supermarine Bowmen till last summer but agility training for my two dogs clashed with the club nights.
Re: Any archers in?
I did a course twice! I took both my kids but then it was clear that if I added something else to my list of interests (shooting, scouting, fishing, bell-ringing) I would loose the marriage bit! Still fancy it but probably just a pipe-dream now.Tower.75 wrote:Evenin' all.
