Recomendations for Slug shotshell reloading

It's not that, it's the amount of trouble he had getting the remaining peanut butter off later on

Going back to an earlier posting about not using range lead for slugs i have done a few measurements:

The Lee 1oz slug mould is dropping out slugs that measure 17.3mm in diameter
My shotgun widest choke (cylinder) is 18.2mm
The slug plus plastic wad (just taken from a normal 12g cartridge) is 18.5mm

So if this is all going to be a bit too tight if not using pure lead for the slugs can i just cut the petals off of the plastic wad or even use fibre wads and use my range lead for slugs?

MAY be worth trying some first, perhaps?
Or a different brand of wad?
Or get a skiver & trim the inside chamfer of the wads? (Sounds like hard work that one though...)

I never measured anything on my slug loads - just went with what the books said regarding suggested wads, etc.

MAY still do some more R&D with wads, as the design I liked the look of the most had length issues and were too long for the hulls I chose for my slugs (went with a translucent type to assist in load verification; it's also nice to be able to see the actual depth of crimp in profile through the side of the hull...)
The cartridge hulls I WAS going to use had a circular rim on their inner edge just above the where the brass ended on the outside. It was only tiny but was enough to stop the wads being seated lower.

My only advice would be to steer well clear of Hodgdon HS6 I have had a shed load of trouble with igniting it consistantly, so have others, in the end it has cost me a barrel. sign01 (following the Lee data to the letter)
