6X55 Wildcat
Has anyone had any experience of the 6,5x55 necked down to 6x55? I know it has been done in the past however it seems to have died a death in most areas and it seems like an interesting concept. Yes I know a 6BR is going to be *the* 6mm to work with however I just fancy something different.

Re: 6X55 Wildcat
I've only found two references to it being done before - 6mm Arch and the 6mm Vais. Very little information on either. If some of the other Arch designs are anything to go by, then the throat will be longer for high BC bullets. As for the Vais velocity seemed to be the main aim, but very little info apart from it's a Swede, shoulders blown out and necked down to 6mm. I have the dimensions for the Arch, if interested.

Not even a mention in wildcat cartridges vol 1&2 but I presume it will be a switch barrel, so you can change barrels in between details, as burning 55+ grains of powder up a 6mm tube sure is going to destroy the odd barrel in 10.

Should work - it'll be close to the 6-284 but might use all its case capacity - which the 6-284 doesn't. Also, 6.5x55 brass will be half the price of 6.5-284.ovenpaa wrote:Has anyone had any experience of the 6,5x55 necked down to 6x55? You can full-length size with a std. 6.5x55 die and size the necks/seat bullets with Wilson hand-dies.
Should run the 115gn DTACs at 3250fps - or more.
