Rebarreling an antique rifle

I have several Remington Rolling blocks and in particular a couple in 43 Egyptian.
One is a bitzer and the other complete but both have very little rifling left.
I toyed with the idea of having one rebarreled in another obsolete caliber,probably in a 40cal of some sort.
I like the idea of it being potentially a good shooter that I could have it on my fac for a while then take it off as per obsolete caliber rifle rules.
I asked a well known gunsmith and he said that the rifle would then become a modern firearm and he would have to enter it onto my fac and it would be treated as a normal sec1 firearm from then on.
I was also quoted a small fortune to do the work!
What do you all think?

You could put a barrel liner in but that ain't cheap either.
I'm trying to rebore or re-line a PH 1200 TX at the moment - either in .358 Win or the original 7,62 x 51.
I wrote to Border Barrels but they couldn't be bothered to reply - nothing new there!!!
I am trying other avenues in the Trade at the moment but nothing is showing itself as a possibility.
There seems to be a lack of resources for this skilled work in the UK!

Would be a sec1, rebarrel or re-sleeve.
