Election of Police Commissioners

#1 Post by Vagabond »

Whether you think it is a good thing or not, may I suggest all the shooting fraternity look at this BASC site to find out whether your local canditates support shooting, and if so you may like to vote for them

Unfortunately many people don't seem to have a choice.

We have a choice of six, Labour being the only one who supports the ownership and use of firearms.
The Independant candidate is doing a tour. http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/local_n ... ttle_Bus_/

Here in John Redwood land, the only Thames Valley candidate to support firearms is a member of his party also.

The chap I wanted to vote for pulled out, being an independent he could not compete with the party candidate, but as chair of the Authority he probably had much more experience than any of the others.
Careful now/that sort of thing

Why are they seeking to place political appointees in charge of the contabulary ? Surely this is a role that only truly independent commissioners can fulfill ? And why have a commissioner at all in place of the current system of elected and locally accountable (and far cheaper) police authorities? *

* We think we already know the answer, and suspect it's partly to do with political control and the creation of new troughs into which retiring party apparatniks can insert their snouts...
