Motorised case preperation station

Case preparation comprises of several stages, some by press and some by hand. Hand stages that can include in no particular order:

Clean inside of neck
Clean outside of neck (I seldom tumble cases)
Clean/uniform primer pocket
Trim to length
Chamfer and de-burr
Neck turn

I do the majority of mine by hand and some I would never consider doing with a machine, however you can get case prep stations to make life easier. I saw this the other day which set me thinking, you can pick up a 24v DC electric scooter motor for under 20 quid, add a DC power supply unit for another tenner and you have the basis of this. Add a speed controller for maybe another tenner and some brackets and you have a handy case prep station, the thing is how many stages would you trust to a machine?

Ouch, that is not a cheap option and it is 240v as well, personally I like lower voltages as they seem safer. I use a cordless drill for cleaning the inside of the neck as the brush does not wear out so quickly. I have been known to use it for uniforming primer pockets as well. My neighbour uses a drill to neck turn as well but so far I have not plucked up the nerve and either use a lathe or do it by hand.

What other stages do you use the drill for DM?

Inside neck cleaning and primer pocket cleaning.

The cheap tools I have for the neck chamfering do not fit in the drill, but even if they did I don't think I would use them.

I find the 240v drill is good for attaching my cleaning rod to when cleaning the barrel,

I have spotted a 100w 24v DC motor on eBlag which with luck will go for under a tenner posted and I have the power supply so I feel morally obliged to have a play at making one of these, even if I will only use it for a couple of operations.... plus I still have a cunning plan for neck turning and a few hundred .308 cases to play with.

Yes they would but the weighing is done by Christel in the kitchen and I do case prep and build in the workshop, erm.... shed

You got me thinking about this now. Got a 240V shower motor from my shower that just broke. It's got a rheostat built in for variable speed (and on/off switch). Going to see what the speed is like at the weekend. Nice size though. Will use some more of the perspex stuff to make a case for it. Just need to find a way of connecting the bits to the output shaft (assuming it has enough torque for the job!).

What else have you got plans for?!! Feeling all productive now!!
