No4 stock finishing

Hi All

I have put a new forend on my No 4 mk 2. The previous owner had fitted a mk 1 stock, the draws were broken and they had bodged the transverse screw by using a cabinet joinging screw as used on Ikea wardrobes. All I need to do now is stain the new one to match the rest of the parts so can any one recomend a stain or varnish that will do the job.

Colron wood stains and then boiled linseed oil to finish. Don't use varnish or any oils with drying agents in.

No need to stain it - BLO will do the job all on its own, with enough coats. I prep mine with #0000 steel wool and then just rub it on by hand. The friction warms the wood and helps it absorb the oil.

Helps not to do this process in company as you may look a little odd!

I have had a good look at the new forend and all the other wood and it looks like the rest of the wood is much darker than the new forend. BLO would not colour it that dark when I tested. But I have checked out the colron wood dye and it can be mixed to get near the correct colour so will give it a go.
