Have a box of 158grn SWC hard cast and some magnum primers.

4.5 to 5gr of TiteGroup, very economical and accurate.
The majority of powders for the .357 don't need magnum primers, just standard small pistol primers. Some powders like H110, 296 do specify a magnum primer.

Get some jacketed bullets, stoke it up with H110 and shoot it out to 300!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Try 2400 powder & also, look into using 180gr bullets (& heavier, if you can find a mold)

Something slow like H110 does appeal.
Will a 357 be stable at 300metres?
If so, the question is - how far will it go?
Interestingly, the Hodgson reloading site does not mention primers UNTIL you go to print the page. Then all of a sudden it says Winchester SPM.

I used to shoot 180gr Jacketed bullets out of a scoped S&W Mod 686 with a six inch barrel out to 300yds with no problems. I couls hold the inner with the occasional bull. Powder was H110. It should be no problem to load .357 in a rifle and shoot beyond 300yds. With the right bullet and powder 500yds should be achievable out of a rifle.kenlee wrote:Something slow like H110 does appeal.

My favourite pistol boolit was the Lyman 358429 Keith type over a healthy charge of Blue dot, 2400 or HS-7.
For the rifle I'd recommend the RCBS 357-180-SILH 430, I have used this in the 357 maximum and Phwoarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
The long range pistol boys mounted on their "flying machine" contraptions used to shoot on Stickledown.

12 grains 2400 powder, CCI 500 small pistol primer and a 158 grain RNFP hard cast bullet-perfect for 100 mtrs.
