Full bore barrel cleaning has been done to death on forums but I am curious about what everybody does with their Marlins shooting hard/soft cast bullets and their 22s.

Now, I subscribe to the school that says you shouldn't clean them very often. To date I have never cleaned the barrels but I am going to assume that at some point they would benefit from a complete deep clean.

What does everybody use on their Marlins? CLP and a bronze brush with MG rifling? Or should I use patches and Butches?

The Ruger has a GM match barrel and I have always been warned not to use a bronze brush on it. So again, nylon brush and CLP or patch it out until clean with Butches?

For lead shooters all I do is a couple of passes after use with patches soaked in Ed's Red and the a dry patch through before firing the next time. That is assuming no leading which there shouldn't be, if there is you need to look at why and sort it. To remove lead a good creeping oil like Kroil, 50/50 ATF and Acetones does as well, and the push out the lead with a tight patch.

The only brushes i ever use are nylon ones to froth up the ammonia I use for that damned copper fouling from condom bullets.

BTW if I was wanting a deep clean a lead shooting barrel, only if I suspected accuracy was dropping off, then nylon brush, Ed's Red and tight patches. Remember if you get right back to the metal it can take up to hundreds of rounds to get the barrel "seasoned" back in and grouping well again.
