ovenpaa wrote:As shooters at clubs we can all call a stop stop stop at any point and certainly in my club it is actively encouraged to do so instead of trying to attract an RCO's attention.

Also we have stop drills as well to make sure everyone is on the ball.

So how many people not acting as RCO's have called stop to see if people are listening?
Once or twice.

Bollocked a few people when attempting to handle when others down range.

Always the very experienced, I've been in the forces, its ok its empty, do you know who I am brigade.

One or two got to committee too...and got retrained.

The army taught me to open the bolt at stop stop stop, my club says to leave it as is when stop stop stop is being shouted.

Needless to say I have had a few encounters with the RCO at the time because frankly the army drilled that into me so it is hard to learn otherwise.

Ovenpaa will now this for sure...been a while since I read the manual, but recollection on stop stop stop was back off and leave rifle for RCO to clear when he/she wanted to.

More recently it appears to be not to unload and to keep hold of the rifle until it checked and cleared. Fine as long as the club explains the procedure. I am looking forward to the RCO course next month.

Bisley Range safety regs jan 09...

"Care must be taken when changing distance or crossing a range. RCOs must immediately call an emergency cease fire (“Stop, Stop, Stop”) and order firearms to be ‘benched’ or unloaded if it appears that a person is likely to enter the danger area. Particular care must be taken on days when “reverse echelon” firing (5/600x on the LHS and 2/300x on the RHS of Century Range, or 1000x on the LHS and 900x on the RHS of Stickledown Range) is operating.

the gun is still a little bit on the heavy side for her, she's only 7 after all ... getting there bit by bit tho...
On a very good note tho , her understanding and implementation of safety is spot on ... not that i would have it any different !
