30-06 info

having recently added a 30-06 slot to my fac with the intention of buying a Springfield I may have had a change of heart.
I've spotted a modern 30-06 Rem 700 custom built forsale and was wondering about ballistics etc.
Now I know that its basically a 308 with a bit more umph so would I be right in saying that the rule of thm for twist rates etc applies?? for instance it's a 1/12 so it's likely to shoot 155-180 grn bullets??
Cheers

The one on GunTrader LOOKS the part - but unless it's the second series model from the maker I'd give it a wide berth - lots of scope problems with the first production run, so bad that Gibbs then had to redesign them and offer to replace any of the earlier scopes with zero problems with one of the updated units
Better project would be to get a plain M1903 and rig it up as an M41 sniper...IF you can find a Unertl...or a Malcolm copy of it...
As a STOP GAP Springfield option - M1917 (P'17) = nice rifles and very under-rated

or the MilSurps forum section on repro sniper rifles, plus SniperCountry website, plus the AR15forum...
The Gibbs rifles ARE ok - but very very overpriced for what they are....
