If there's that many of them, then even I could probably justify going after a nice bit of hog-roast - but it doesn't matter how mean or diseased an animal is, you've still got to make sure of a good first shot - these guys need to find both a sense of morals and some kahunas, and go out on foot....

While I agree with your sentiments regarding the shot placement - the use of helicopters are vital in regard to covering a large area and maximising the number of ferals shot i.e. culling vs hunting. A side effect of using helicopters is that the pigs will run and you're shooting from a unstable platform - hence the poor number of hits. I only hope that once the pig is hit, it is finished off as quickly as possible.

It looked like they were using 5.56, which IMO is too small - to get the job done from an AR-15 I'd be using either 458 SOCOM, 450 Bushmaster or 50 Beowulf rounds. The caveat in saying that is I only watched the clip but didn't listen to it so I don't know if this was mentioned.

I've hunted feral pigs (razorbacks) with a bow and arrow in Australia and it's hard work (and scary too!) Going after them on foot alone would be impractical if you're trying to kill as many as possible. I would guess that ultimately it would be a combination of helicopters and teams on the ground working hand in hand that would be the most effective, but that is for the US to decide.

Australia has been trying to get rid of razorbacks for years but they're still there and will be for a long while yet. Be that as it may, their numbers must be controlled.

I understand that the use of helicopters is practical, and if culling is the purpose then probably necessary (god I hate it when you put your 'voice of reason' hat on Sandgroper :P ), but at least land and take the shot from a stable position! - I think what really annoys me, is how much they're enjoying it...and for that type the fact that you can't really argue against a cull, is just an excuse for what they do...

Btw: I've done some camping on my own in the north of WA - not being worried about snakes and spiders etc, I loved it... but did wish a few times that I'd never seen the film 'Razorback' as a kid

Unfortunately, landing is not always practical and in any case by the time you land the pigs have gone off in the other direction and you're back to chasing them!

I'm not going to judge them. At least while they're enjoying themselves the job is getting done and it is highlighting the problem of feral pigs. Sorry - that's the voice of reason speaking again!

Again, I see your point, but I couldn't spend any time in their company...so am judging them - will have to agree to disagree this time...

As for 'Razorback' - yes a cheesy and unreal film...but when you're alone in the bush (leave it Ovenpaa), and you start to let your imagination run away...the fear is real! :lol:
