Hi all,

Came across this over at fal files, an astonishing collection of all the worlds fals, unfired in the wrap British L1's included!

Some very rare US trails T48 fals in store, must be worth a fortune!

All the weapons are apparently in store at Marine Corps Base Quantico and the pics were taken December 12 2008.

I do wonder why the American have so many tho, did they use or trial the FAL?

Well don't get me started on the Fal, you won't shut me up....but seeing as I am at work I better keep it brief! The Americans trialed the Fal, the US version was called the T48, it was an inch pattern rifle with great similarity with the Commonwealth L1 versions of the Fal.

It went head to head with the M14.....and lost out. History is very clear the "Not made here" factor was a major influence in the selection process and the trials were rigged in the M14's favour.

Still the M14 is also a very fine battle rifle, but "The right arm of the Free world" gets my vote every time

An SLR would be nice, but I don't think I could bring myself to have a straight pull version - it's just not right! :cool2:

During my Basic Course in the RAAF, my weapon within the section was the L2A1 Automatic Rifle (heavy barrel version). Awkward (understatement!) during fire and movement, stoppages with blanks every 3 to 4 rounds, magazines wouldn't fit in the issued pouches but at least you didn't get thumped when you went full auto! :shakeshout:

At the end of Basic, I was sorry to let the L2A1 go and had mixed feelings about getting a Steyr on being posted to the Squadron.

There are all kinds of goodies in that armoury picture tongueout

The T-48 actually beat the M14 in most of the trials, but....
As it is almost a M1 garand, and most of the machernery is already there and easy to re set up.
Also money being exchanged in back rooms and alleyways.
Well you know money talks.
Myself I love my FAL and L1A1.

Yes and they were all minging, did you see the state of those gas parts someone needs a trip to the pokey for a few extra lessons on weapon cleaning sign01 .
