Just back from holiday and my renewed certificates were waiting on the mat. I am now on the look out for a good quality black gun in. 22. I have always had traditional, sporting rimfires in the past but now want something different for use at the range. Having read as many reviews as I can find I think i should stear clear of GSG and SGC products and am looking at H&K mp5's, Colt M4, S&W 15-22 or SIG 522. Has anyone got an opinion, either good or bad on any of the above ( cue the wood is good, plastic is crap comments), or should I just buy a 10/22 and an aftermarket stock to help me over this mid-life crisis?
Main criteria are quality, reliability, fun and cost in that order.

I've got the 522 SWAT, worth the extra for the SWAT version, 100% reliable, great fun on the range.

YES - they are punted by SGC in the UK - but as the upper is purely a CZ item, it's not an issue & I've never had any problems with it

I had a Colt M4 and it was ok but a pain to clean as its limited to what you can strip down also the triggers are set at about 5lbs of pull and you can't adjust them :cool2:

I sold it on and I wouldn't buy another, I'd look at the Sig :goodjob:

Save up some extra and buy a CMMG from Lantac.

there are 3 or 4 members using S&W MP15-22's down at my club, they seem very reliable and quite accurate. I got to have a quick go of one last week and was impressed.

I've also used the Sig 522 (seemed to have more of a kick to it compared to the S&W) but the stock was a slight issue for me -seemed a bit thin.

I've also had a quick go of the HK416 .22 which was pretty nice, but stiff trigger though.

There's also a CMMG revolution M4 in use at the club - no experience of shooting it myself but it certainly looks the part (its all mil-spec parts so you could swap out the .22 upper for a .223 alternative?) The owner of the CMMG M4 had to return it recently - something not quite right with the barrel.

I've also used the Sig 522 (seemed to have more of a kick to it compared to the S&W) but the stock was a slight issue for me -seemed a bit thin.

Was that thin as in comb width or thin overall and a bit on the wobbly side? I have heard from an ex GSG owner of issues with loose telescopic stocks causing a poor mount.
The Sig seems to be a popular choice from those I have spoken to so far.

They are .22 rimfires - they don't have any recoil!

Had both a GSG fixed stock (from Germany) and an SGC V22....

The GSG worked well, the iron sights are mince. and always showt way too the left...used a Cmore sight and it was spot on...

The V22 was all singing and dancing, all the bits and NOT cheap...had one issue with it and fair play, it was sorted by SGC no problem at all with a new upper (from DPMS I think)..

The V22 mags were a bit heavy and sometimes iffy on feeding ... but that's good for stoppage drills...

I have a Sig556 semi auto outside the UK, I'd go for the Sig 522 personally speaking..Also had lots of fun with a riger 10/22 cusomised with MP5 alike bits....At least 10/22 is everywhere..
