Who uses what and what would they recommend? My bushnell V2, just took a fall and it will not be recoverable (ok I left it on the roof of the truck and drove off!!)
So I need to replace it, but with which one?

I use a Leica Rangemaster 1200 which has good glass at 7X magnification and gives yards or metres.

If you must invest in one of these, don't scrimp. Go with Leica, Swarovski, etc. There are deals to be had at present for the Swaro.
Why not just learn range estimation?

I cannot remember when I took mine out last (It was a lucky find on eBlag) I will walk across the fields with it, estimate ranges and then check with the range finder and I can very quickly refine my guess to consistently within 50 metres, it just takes an hour or so every so often. When I feel I am loosing the touch I practice again.
Do this on urban landscapes as well as the fields, it cab be interesting.

I'm beginning to think that this forum should be re-named 'Spud's Outlet.'

Apology not necessary. Just seems like you're suddenly everwhere.
Spud's world domination plan begins with taking over the internet!

Weird, but my Bushnell 800 (plus a bit) Pro just died this weekend.... display flickers and 37yds seems to be the norm for readings...
Hell of a unit, ranged out to 1200 at Warcop and was pretty much on the button....
think some leaky batteries may be the cause, but will see what the nice people at Bushnell say...
