FAC expired

Well it has happened, my FAC has expired (4th July) and the new one is not here yet.
It went in with plenty of time, was processed and I was even visited by the SFEO on a different matter, my explosives cert came back in time but the FAC failed to show despite calls to make sure it was all OK. Yesterday I received a call from Bedfordshire to check on a few items and they said fine, we will get everything over to Hertfordshire where HO is to get in finished. No worries I said as long as I am covered as I am shooting Saturday. No you cannot do that I was told...
Grr... so a call to Hertford this morning and they said they did not really mind me shooting as long as it was in the same county however it is not so I asked for a temporary certificate. Now apparently you cannot shoot with a temporary certificate, only hold the firearms! I have learnt something new, so Christel will be coming with me tomorrow as she is now the only FAC holder between us and so legally entitled to hold them outside of the house.
Disappointing....

You'd better behave or she'll take all your toys away!
On a more serious note, that's disappointing. It's strange that you got your explosive cert but not your FAC. Are you sure about the restrictions with the temporary certificate or are they just trying to dissuade you from requesting one?
I suppose the consolation is that Christel's FAC covers all the firearms and you're not left in the situation of having possession of your firearms but no authority to hold them.
Hopefully it's sorted soon.

This according to BASC (my bold)
If you have returned your application form in good time and are experiencing delays which
may put you in unlawful possession of firearms when your certificate expires, then you
should ask for a Temporary Permit under Section 7 of the Firearms Act 1968. This will allow
you to keep and use your firearms and shotguns and also, by virtue of Section 5(2)(a) of
the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988, to purchase ammunition. Unfortunately it will not
allow you to possess expanding ammunition – if you have any. This should be lodged with
a registered firearms dealer until you have your renewed certificate.

A lot of firearms departments are very reluctant to issue a temporary certificate as it flags up their department is not performing as it should and the Chief Constable gets notified.

There is a good article in the latest BASC magazine that covers this - is that an extract from it?

I think this is just going to get more common until they finally realise they need to sort the system.
My Fac application has now been in for 3 weeks but last week I was talking to a club Secretary and he said Avon & Somerset police have just got rid of all their normal feo's and to expect at least a 4 month wait and that I will be the clubs guinea pig for the new system as he is under the impression that the visit/interview will be done by a member of the armed response unit, I was hoping for the friendly feo I had last time, so not looking forward to the possibility of someone going fully by the book without some commonsense in the licensing area.

No. Just grabbed it from the website. I forgot about that article. I'll go and have a re-read.
