I bought a Winchester......

Well, self confessed "Mr Marlin" went and bought himself a Winchester........ Can't believe it! sign01

Anyway, I've been looking for a .25-20 Marlin for absolutely ages now. Not a popular caliber at all in the UK. A dealer mate rings and asks, "You looking for a 25 cal Marlin?",

"Too right I am!"

"You better come quick and bring cash...."

So I get to his and when he pulls it out of a hessian sack, I say, "It's a bloody Winchester, you doughnut.", "Yeah, I know, " he replies, "You wouldn't have come if I told you that!" He has a point....

After a brew and a good look at the gun, I make him an utterly derisory offer. He accepts! Estate sale of his Great Uncle with everything going to the RSPCA after the lawyer takes a substantial chunk!

It's going to need a little TLC over the next couple of days, but then that should be long enough to sort out technical issues and get pictures up!! One little snippet though, a quick check of the serial number shows this little Model 1892 was made in 1899....... tongueout bangbang

Nice round the 25-20. I'm playing with a Stevens in 32-20 just now.

Adam, one of my Marlins is in .32-20....

I know you will hate the suggestion, but I've found that a 115gn LRNFP, 3.0gns of Hodgdon Tightgroup and a CCI small rifle primer, give a one hole, ragged group at 25 and shoot about two inches at 50. Clean as well. That rifle primer uses every atom of 3 gns of powder...... And at well over 2000 rounds per tub, it will appeal to!!

1899, that's fantastic. What history. If only it could talk.

Have 3 Winchesters myself - an 1898 dated 1897 model, a pre-war Model 70 Super Grade and a modern Win 94 Trapper (plus have a Winchester P14 awaiting my one-for-one variation)

Welcome to the dark side of REAL guns!!

I'm using my 310 Cadet load with good effect, 3.5gns of Vihtavuori N350. Saves me changing discs on my Lee Pro Auto Disc powder measure. The use of which I hope you are suitably impressed with. :good:
