Hi Folks.
Could anyone please tell me what the deal is with getting a rifle deactivated.
I would like to hang it above my bench and get a one for one for something else.
I know I can't just pay a blacksmith £20.00 to weld it and some quango's will want
in on the deal.
Has anyone been down this road recently?

The rifle is a P14. The only original parts are the receiver and bolt.
It has been rebarreled with long 7.62mm. And target stock. The mag floor is welded and only single feed is possible. The extractor is probably original and will not hook the fired case.
It fires ok. There is no provision for mounting a scope and price of engineering would be
prohibitive. I just can't get enthusiastic about taking it to the range.
I suppose I could move it on but,for what it would make in cash I would prefer to hang it on the wall as an interesting talking piece. The P14 has a history. But this ?

Any decent Gunsmith will do the work for you, needs to then go to the proof house for a Deact' certificate. Cost all inc' would be around the £80-£100 mark.

Gaz said his bit about deacts the other day , so whats wrong with a TR in 7.62 , I bought an Enfield in the same spec but its a great rifle for the range which was cheap to buy , maybe put it in the sales section and see what happens .

Hello Dave.
There is nothing wrong with TR in 7.62.
Its just that I have problems with iron or appature sights.
The other thing is that I have a Swarro 6-24x50 5 years old and only ever used on my HMR.
It needs a new home. Perhaps on a new .308.

Suffice to say, I don't like the idea of deactivation. But each to his own, it is your rifle after all.

Personally I would move it on, there is nothing wrong with the P14 conv, the first rifle I owned was one of these back it 89 and it shot very very well, so why not move it on for a good price ie £100 -£150, it would give you cash towards your new .308 as opposed to costing you the same to have it deactivated. and on the plus side it would also give someone else a cheap leg up into TR shooting.
