Fascinating, it is in remarkable condition as well, now they have to turn it over and get it moved, I hope they follow up on this as it will be an interesting project.

I was amazed to see the perspex still in place and all the markings readable.

Very interesting story.
On the same theme anybody heard any more about the P-40 found earlier in the year?
It's a pity they didn't mention that is was also used as a SAR aircraft and many aircrew (from both sides) were rescued by them. The RAF also used 3 ex Norwegian He-115's for clandestine ops - the fourth one was presumably used for spares.Wartime Nazi bomber: The Heinkel He-115 flying boat, pictured (in Finnish markings) during World War Two, was used to attack shipping and in a reconnaissance role

Yes, the He-115 in the B/W photo in the article is one of 3 that served in the Finnish Armed Forces.
During the Second World War the Finn's markings on their aircraft and vehicles consisted of a un-tilted right facing swastika http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Finla ... border.svg The Finnish use of the swastika was independent of Nazi Germany and originated from a good luck symbol* painted on one their first aircraft. After WWII due to Nazi use of the swastika the Finn's had to drop it's use and resorted to the blue and white roundel seem today.
Interestingly, Finland was never part of the Axis Alliance, but was labelled a co-belligerent due to fighting alongside German forces as part of it's Continuation War with Russia. Finland's conduct of the Continuation War irritated Germany, as Finland was only seeking to regain territory lost during the Winter War of '39-40 and did not always co-operate with German Operational planning - the siege of Leningrad being one example.

Hmmmm interesting story. Something very similar happened in the Lake District back in the second world war.
I was in the Lakes a few months ago and going up to Hellvellyn via Striding Edge and back down Swirrel Edge to the Tarn. While I was going back down to Glenridding I noticed 2 guys coming up and they had diving equipment with them. I asked what the hell they were doing and they told me that a Mosquito aircraft crashed into Striding Edge and once the bodies had been recovered, the aircraft remains had been dumped into Red Tarn.
So they were going to dive and film the remains. It had been filmed before but in the early 90s apparently.
