Is anyone else using these?

I have been playing with various powders and bullets, today I picked up some sierra 142gr HPBT (1742) and after a discussion with my RFD I came home with some IMR 4831. I am going to try and push these out to 1000 and further at Sennybridge.

IMR show a start load of 43gr for these bullets. No problem there, until I put the same bullet and powder in to quick load and quickload shows the start load of 43gr with much higher pressure than the IMR website data. The max on the IMR listing is 46.5gr - yet quickload shows these as dangerous loads with a pressure of 66250 psi.

I am obviously going to start low and work up - but with whose data?!!?

Anyone else using IMR 4831 with their 6.5x55 and heavier bullets?

Can't comment on IMR 4831 with their 6.5x55 and heavier bullets. I have never tried it. My Blaser LRS2 6.5x55mm SE, loves 139grn Lapau Scenars driven by 48grns of Reloader 22 very accurate.

Jenks what sort of speed are you getting with that combo? Ive just bought a Tikka T3 varmint in 6.5x55 and am interested in some recipies. Im new to reloading as well. I was thinking about using the 140 grain Amax's as there a bit cheaper than the scenars.

I was knocking down the 1100yd ETR with monotonous consistency yesterday with my 6.5x55, using 142 SMKs and the 139 Sceners, with IMR 4831 pushing it out at just over 2700fps (Chrono'd there)

I also managed a few hits at the 1380yd ETR with it. (I need a 20 MOA rail though, which I'll pick up tomorrow)

My Tikka does not like the Amax's at all.

I find the 139's very effective even out to 1200 yards so have not tried the 142's I have. Which one seemed to better at distance for you Mike?

As it was against the ETRs at that distance it was hard to say - but there did not seem to be anything between the two! Both needed the same scope adjustment and both seemed to be affected by what little wind there was the same (At 1100 I was only needing to aim at the edge of the target to get a good hit)
