Sig 522 or ISSC MSR?

#1 Post by LeighC »

I've got a spare .22 slot on my FAC and it's a toss up between these two, purely 'cos I really like European assault rifles and I don't really want to go down the M4 route. I've read equal good and bad reports on both of these rifles, does anyone here have anything to add that could/should sway my decision?

I know someone with a FAMAS, I have only ever seen his at Bisley but he thinks they are common in France - not surprisingly.

I also have a friend who has a Sig, he loves it choosing it over all the M4 types that he has handled. Personally I can not remember a bad word being said about them.

I have a SIG 522 and it's visually distinctive, reliable and not particularly fussy about ammunition either.

The stock is adjustable for length of pull and there's also a lever on the underside which allows you to extend the buttstock, providing a couple of extra inches of adjustment. The gun can be adjusted to fit almost anyone. Although, the stock can be a little loose even when locked into place.

The ergonomics and controls are generally good with an ambidextrous safety. The trigger pull is very smooth and breaks at around 4 pounds, 14 ounces of pressure.

My only criticism is that I wish the lower receiver was also manufactured from alloy rather than polymer to give a more solid feel to the gun.

Ive got a 522 Swat, it runs like a dream - will cycle any ammo from Subs to HV and does not complain - it does like to be kept clean though (4/500 rounds) - it comes apart easily and cleans quickly and easily. I was not overly keen on the standard trigger, although it was good compared to most others - a quick look on the internet showed a nice quick and easy trigger fix. This took me about half an hour and hey presto I know have a sweet trigger too - for the price of an AR15 trigger spring and some time.
