I am running windows 7 my Dvd/RW stopped working when I looked in my computer it was not showing the drive.
It shows it in the BIOS.
I now have it showing as drive D if I go to my computer if I try to load a disc it keeps telling to insert a disc.
The DVD drive is brand new.
The mother board is the ASUS P5QE

stick a dvd film in it and see if it works

are you using the right media ?

have you installed the drivers for it?

have you rebooted since installing?

if you go to "my computer" do you see it listed?

is the dvd making any noises or doing any thing?

Alpha1, it's cool as mine shows exactly the same, no filters. OK we need to set up a time for you and I to hook up on Skype and Teamviewer, I'm thinking it's something in computer management. Meanwhile check the back of the CD/DVD player, if the jumper pin is in "cable select" move it to either Master or slave depending on your setup. Best we get on Skype and take it from there. I had this happen to me when I installed my DVD writer. PM me your Skype name and I will find you.

Spud, the problem is the DVD player itself, it's faulty. The DVD player is showing as mounted in Computer Management, even with a drive letter change it still won't work. I just accessed Alpha1's computer using Teamviewer, I was able to eject (open drive) change drive letter, but still no joy. Even though the drive is new it is knackered, it will not spin or read DVD's or CD's. It needs to be taken back to where he bought it and exchanged.
