Hi all.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I'm sure it has - had a quick search on the history, but couldn't find anything.

What projectiles does the MAS36 eat? I've read other places that it takes either a .309 or .310... really? If so, how do I get them? I know that you can buy .310dia .303cal bullets, but I've never seen any around.

I really fancy a MAS36, but will be very put off if you have to have an engineering degree just to reload and feed the thing. I'm starting to think I should just get something that eats .308 and be done with it. Or scrap the lot and take up archery.

Lapua at one time did offer 309 D 46 bullets I wonder if they are still manufactured.You could shoot cast bullets that would solve your problem plus save quite a lot.I think is best to make a chamber cast
so that you can accurately measure your groove size.Try 308 bullet first they could shoot even with an oversize groove.

SLUG the barrel (LOTS of recent posts on here by Dromia on how to do that)

You'll then KNOW the bore dia. & can narrow your search accordingly

I own a mas36 I have had it quite a few years now.

My favourite load for it is.

155g Hornady A max .308. I use the same bullit in my Steyr SSG P1

6.5x55 Lapau cases full lentgh sized using a set of Lee dies then trimmed to the correct lentgh.
Charged with 42.3 grains of Vit N140.

The rifle shoots were you point it and I love it.

I have all ways reloaded for it using bullits designed for the .308 in various weights.

The above load works for me in MY mas36 I can not guarantee that it will work in yours.

My MAS 36 slugs at .297(L) and .307(G) I use .308 FMJ and cast bullets gas checked to .309, both perform well in MY rifle. I would be careful not to go above .308 FMJ bullets until you have slugged the bore to determine the diameter.
